One perk of celebrating your birthday in another country is that I got to celebrate it twice. Grace saw to it that everyone knew it was my Chinese birthday. She went around whispering all morning.
As I posted earlier, I had the sweetest birthday gift from John that touched my heart in ways I can't describe. That night, we went to dinner with some new friends. One of our new friends speaks Chinese so it was nice to have him order. What we found out was that in many "nice" restaurants in China, you are seated in your own private room. The director of the center helped us get to our room and then left us there; our other friends had yet to arrive. After we sat there for a while, we were starting to get nervous that we were in the wrong spot and we had no idea where we were or how to communicate. About that time, we hear "police!" I about freaked out. Turns out our new friend Ming was trying to be funny after hearing our story from last year. (If you missed it, you can read it here http://thebarkerfamily.weebly.com/1/post/2012/07/wont-be-doing-that-again-by-suzanne.html ). No, I have yet to recover from my run in with the police last time!

During the meal, our waitress never leaves the room. There is a serving door that they pass food through. We had goat soup. The owner raises his own goats! We also has some other dishes. Since it was my birthday, they brought me complimentary long noodles with egg. The egg represents life and the noodles a long life! It was a nice dinner with new friends!
