Tonight, more than anything, I am thankful for our safety here at the orphanage. Last night was downright the scariest night of my life, and I wanted my daddy (yes, I miss you very much!). Anyways, last night we had decided to stay at the hotel and I was very excited about it. Until we were rudely awaken by the police. My mom already wrote about it in detail, but basically they knocked on the door and demanded to see us and our passports. But the moral of the story is that I am very grateful for our room here at the orphanage. We just had a knock on our door, and rather than fearing who it was, we could safely open the door and let Brad in who was just delivering one of our water bottles. Sweet boy.
Another interesting thing about today was my dress. It was a dress that I wear quite a bit at home, but the Chinese just adored it. Before we even got back to our room, I already had two compliments on it. Come to find out, they think it makes me look like a fairy. Now that’s something I’ve never heard before! After dinner, some of the kids lined up to take their picture with me and my fairy dress. It was an odd experience. One of the girls told me I was very beautiful and one of the boys told me I was his good friend, which was very sweet considering that was the first time he had ever spoke to me.
After picture time, some of the girls were asking my mom and me about our schooling. When they learned that we both were studying math, they were very interested in comparing our math to the math they learn. So we had math time! Woo! It turns out that their level of math is about two or three grade levels ahead of Texas at least. They are quite advanced. Luckily, I still had some level of dignity when I could stump the only high schooler with derivatives and integrals.
Anyways, we are off to bed now since it is past our usual 8:30 bedtime!
